The University of Saint Francis will present While the Lights Were Out, a comedic murder mystery written by Jack Sharkey, as its spring production. You have five performances to choose from March 19-22 at the USF Robert Goldstine Performing Arts Center. While The Lights Were Out commences with a thunderstorm and, you guessed it, the lights go out. Through the dark we hear an agonized voice and then a gunshot. Just as quickly as they went out, the lights come back on and we see a woman standing over a dead man holding a bloody dagger which naturally leads the detective who examines the body to declare, “He’s been strangled.” In what may be one of the most hilarious murder mysteries ever staged, Sharkey makes sure every clue is misleading and every lead goes nowhere. Just when you think you know “whodunit,” the plot twists in another direction. The delightful evening of mayhem gallops madly about the stage and will leave the audience breathless with surprise and laughter. The mystery is top-notch, the characters interesting, and the comedy explosive. This USF School of Creative Arts production will be directed by Brad Beauchamp.
