The Niswonger Performing Arts Center of Northwest Ohio will celebrate the music of Neil Diamond with two performances by I Am He Said on March 21. At 2 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m., this celebration of the music of Neil Diamond stars Matt Vee, nephew of ’60s pop star Bobby Vee. Vee will fill the air with some of the 40 or so hits Diamond wrote and recorded over a five decade-long career. Songs you know by heart like “Song Sung Blue,” “Forever In Blue Jeans,” “Coming To America,” and, of course, “Sweet Caroline” will be presented by Vee and his band in as authentic a way as possible, honoring the man who has sold over 135 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. Diamond also penned songs for The Monkees, Deep Purple, and Elvis Presley in addition to others, and those songs sometimes make a surprise appearance. But for the most part, Vee sticks with Diamond’s best-known catalog interspersed with intimate moments and stories of Diamond’s life. Select choirs from Coldwater High School, directed by Cindy Wendel; Parkway High School, directed by Leslie Baltzell; and Wayne Trace High School, directed by Joni Wenning will provide back-up choir vocals for five popular Neil Diamond hits and close out each show with special fanfare.
