Legendary rock band the Eagles initially broke up in 1980 after a string of successful albums including Hotel California, The Long Run, and the release of the most successful greatest hits albums ever, Greatest Hits 1971-1975.
Then Hell froze over in 1994 when the band reunited for the “Hell Freezes Over” tour, launching the second phase of their career.
Now it appears the end is near again for the band as they have announced the initial stops for “The Long Goodbye” tour, beginning in September.
As the name of the tour implies, the group plans to take its time saying its farewells. The announcement said, “Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey, will perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands. The tour is expected to continue into 2025.”
Those initial dates include three in our region. First up will be an Oct. 9 show at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, followed by Oct. 13 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit and Oct. 17 at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland.
When those show sell out, the band plans to add dates to those cities, barring any number of logistical issues that can pop up when booking venues. Fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s Steely Dan will open the shows.
Alt rock trio hits the road
Blonde Redhead are returning with their first album in almost a decade when they release Sit Down for Dinner on Sept. 29.
To support it, the trio will head out on a tour that stops at Chicago’s Thalia Hall on Halloween night.
Sit Down for Dinner was a long time in the making as it was written over a five-year period in locations spanning from New York City and upstate New York to Milan and Tuscany.
Formed in the 1993, Blonde Redhead quickly found an audience and released several successful and critically acclaimed albums.
On Sit Down for Dinner, the band’s tenth studio album, it was noted in the press release that the band evolved their sound by using melodies to charge each song, creating “a foil to lyrics about the inescapable struggles of adulthood: communication breakdown in enduring relationships, wondering which way to turn, holding onto your dreams.”
Funk Festival set for Detroit
Detroit Funk Festival takes place August 26 at the Music Hall Amphitheater in the Motor City.
The one and only Bootsy Collins will host the event featuring up and coming Detroit area funk acts. Ten hours of complimentary music is scheduled beginning at noon, so it won’t cost you anything but the gas to get there and the cash to park.
Any proceeds or donations acquired during the day will benefit Collins’ Funk Not Fight Foundation which aims to end gun violence in our nation’s cities.
