Still time to catch Color Purple, Ragtime
Fort Wayne theater groups are offering a number of theatrical productions to honor Black History Month which continue this weekend.
Fort Wayne Civic Theatre is presenting the musical The Color Purple through Sunday, Feb. 18, at Arts United Center.
This musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel (and the popular 1985 Steven Spielberg film) spotlights Celie, a downtrodden young woman whose personal awakening over the course of 40 years forms the arc of this epic story. With a joyous score featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, African music, and blues, The Color Purple is a story of hope, a testament to the healing power of love, and a celebration of life. For tickets, go to fwcivic.org.
At the University of Saint Francis’ Robert Goldstine Performing Arts Center, Genesis Outreach is producing Ragtime the Musical.
The show tells multiple stories of immigration, racial barriers, capitalism, and women finding their voice —all topics that are as relevant today as they were in 1906, when the musical is set.
For tickets for Ragtime, go to showtix4u.com and search “Genesis.”
