What began as a vehicle for research on the Fort Wayne rivers in 2001 after purchasing a “beachfront” property on the Maumee River near downtown Fort Wayne, Save Maumee Grassroots Organization’s restoration projects began in 2005.

Because the organization is run solely by volunteers, their annual fundraiser is crucial to the operation.

This year’s event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 4-8 p.m. at 501 Rose Ave. in New Haven, following their Canoe Clean-up at Fort Wayne Outfitters from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Focusing on restoring the area to make it more environmentally friendly, the cleanup of the rivers gets the day started at Fort Wayne Outfitters before moving to the nonprofit’s headquarters on Rose Avenue.

The fundraiser will include a silent auction, raffles, live painting, belly dancers, guided hikes, several vendors, and food trucks.

Fort Wayne favorites U.R.B. and Harp Condition will provide the musical entertainment.
