First Presbyterian Theater’s production of Godspell will be presented over two weekends, March 24-26 and March 31-April 2.
The original Godspell was a huge hit when it debuted off-Broadway in 1971, winning a Tony Award in 1977 for Best Original Score.
This version, directed by Reuben Albaugh, is a retelling of that original sensation, injected with contemporary references and new song arrangements, making it a relevant and new experience for all ages.
The story is told through a small group of people helping Jesus tell different parables by using a variety of games, storytelling techniques, and a hefty dose of comic timing. An eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, is employed as the story of Jesus’ life through the Last Supper and the Crucifixion is told, making it the perfect play for the Easter season.
