An immersive outdoor murder mystery is taking place in Promenade Park from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30.
Nevermore: The Murders in the Rue Morgue is inspired by The Murders in the Rue Morgue by Edgar Allan Poe.
Participants will explore the murder scene, collect evidence, find clues, solve puzzles, and interrogate the suspects. Enjoy music, heavy hors d’oevres, and a glass of absinthe served from a traditional absinthe fountain — just the way Edgar Allan Poe drank it. Special guests, the Original ParaSisters, will be on hand to talk about real-life hauntings they have experienced. Costumes are encouraged but not required and prizes will be awarded for the best costume and best mystery-solvers. A cash bar will be available.

Mobile sensory room at Promenade Park
Riverfront Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation are now offering a first-of-its-kind therapeutic mobile sensory room.
The Calm Water Sensory Tent is designed to mimic stationary sensory rooms used for individuals with autism, dementia, sensory processing disorders, and more. The tent will be at large riverfront events in Promenade Park. The individual’s experience in the tent is entirely customized and targets sensory seeking or avoidant needs. Adult supervision is required.

Trick or treat at the botanical conservatory
On Saturday, Oct. 16, the Botanical Conservatory will hold a Garden Trick or Treat from noon to 3 p.m. as part of Fright Night. Everyone is invited to wear a costume, take photos, and enjoy sweet treats.
That evening, bring your lawn chairs for a showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on the outdoor terrace. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the movie will begin at 9:15 p.m. Rice and confetti are not allowed at this participatory event. The movie is rated R. Tickets are $4 for 18+ and $2 for 17 and under (must be accompanied by an adult).
The Botanical Conservatory will hold an interactive Pumpkin Path display during public hours through October 31. Outsmart the garden gnomes, take part in photo ops, and guess the weight of the largest pumpkin.
Halloween Haunt at Community Center
On Saturday, Oct. 16, from 3-6 p.m., bring the kids to the community center in Fort Wayne for games and activities. Anthony Wayne Lions Club will have concessions available for purchase, but admission is free.
Handmade and homemade
Salomon Farm Park will host a Handmade Homemade Sale on Sunday, October 17, from noon to 5 p.m. at 817 W. Dupont Road. Crafters and artisans will sell their goods in the Wolf Family Learning Center and Old Barn at the park. Admission and parking are free.
PFW concert features trombonist
On Thursday, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p.m., the PFW School of Music’s full band ensemble returns for a concert featuring Professor of Trombone Andy Hicks on Jay Rush’s Concerto for Bass Trombone. Other works include those by Nishimura, Dean Taylor, Pann’s Slalom, and Wagner’s Elsa’s Procession to the Cathedral. Dan Tembras conducts. The concert will take place at Auer Performance Hall.

Pottery workshop at PFW
The PFW Department of Art and Design will present a free Wood-Firing Workshop on Oct. 20 and 21 in the Visual Arts Building.
Visiting artists Shane Christensen, Stephen Heywood, Brian Jensen, and Michael T. Schmidt will demonstrate pottery-making techniques, present artist lectures, and participate in a wood firing. Pottery making will take place from 9 a.m.-noon and 1:30-4 p.m. on Saturday. The glazing and wood kiln and pottery assembly demonstrations will be on Sunday. Artist lectures will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, with an artist reception from 5-7 p.m.
