There’s just something about enjoying a monster night with some pizza and soda. For those horror movie fans, Famous Monster Pizza in Decatur has you covered.

Famous Monster Pizza, 136 N. Second St., will host movies and all-you-can-eat pizza on Saturday, June 17, and Sunday, June 25. On June 17, the pizzeria will present the 2014 Godzilla at 10:30 p.m. during their Dark Hours Dinner Theatre. For their Sunday Matinee and June 25, they will show Jurassic Park: The Lost World at 1 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

If those dates don’t work for you, they will also be showing Crawl on July 15 at 10:30 p.m. with a buffet.

Your $17 admission includes the movie and pizza buffet, breadsticks, and popcorn. Alcohol and soft drinks are extra.

Famous Monster Pizza is built around classic motion picture monsters. The menu is adorned with dishes celebrating that with pizzas like the Frankenstein (featuring a little bit of everything) Poultrygeist (that’s chicken pizza, of course).

The good humor continues with their sausage rolls and stromboli. I couldn’t help but smile at these wrapped delights named for movie mummies like Im Ho Tep Sausage Roll and The Scorpion King Chicken Parmesan.

The bar includes domestic and craft beers and Two-EE wines. Don’t miss their classic soda fountain.

RibFest is a family-friendly affair

As we’ve mention, the local BBQ RibFest has a simple recipe for success: great barbecue, lively music, and a family-friendly atmosphere.

“The beautiful thing is that everyone loves great barbecue,” co-executive director Marc Chappius said of the four-day festival at Headwaters, June 15-18.

Highlighting the festival are national BBQ wizards and a few local pitmasters working their magic and competing for awards.

Local vendors are also scattered around the park to satisfy whatever craving a barbecue lover has. Whatever style it may be — from Texas, Kansas City, Memphis, or Carolina style — they have you covered.

Don’t get hung up on the ribs, because there are also brisket, pulled pork, beef, turkey, baked goods, and sweets. If you are struggling to pick, some vendors offer platters that sample them all.

Chappius says the laid-back nature of the event and a few full bellies tend to calm the soul.

“People who come to this event over the years know they can come and have a good time, bring their families, and leave the drama behind and just have fun.”
