Cinema Center will present a free screening of the documentary Finding Vivian Maier on Friday, March 24, at 6 p.m., before her exhibit, Vivian Maier: Street Photographer wraps up at Garrett Museum of Art on Sunday, March 26.

Now considered one of the 20th century’s greatest street photographers, Maier was a mysterious nanny who took more than 100,000 photographs that went undeveloped and unseen during her lifetime.

Cinema Center is teaming up with Garrett Museum of Art to share her story, including a deeper dive with a virtual visit from author Ann Marks along with copies of her book Vivian Maier Developed: The Untold Story of the Photographer Nanny.

At Garrett Museum of Art, you can see 50 iconic photographs by Maier. The photographs were purchased by John Maloof during a 2007 foreclosure auction in Chicago. After finding the negatives from the unknown Maier, he knew he had stumbled upon something and contacted other buyers from the auction to obtain 140,000 photographs.

The Garrett Museum of Art exhibit is on loan from Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York City, and the pictures are sure to mesmerize. Admission to the exhibit is $5 and the hours are 5-8 p.m. Friday, 4-7 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday.
