What better way to spend Mother’s Day weekend than visiting downtown to shop local while treating your family to food, drinks, and entertainment at a local restaurant? Look for these happenings:
Alyssa Enright will perform at The Porch Off Calhoun on Friday, May 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the OG Band will perform from 6-8 p.m. at The Landing.
On Saturday, May 7, be on the lookout for Disney princesses from noon-1 p.m. throughout downtown as Belle from Beauty and the Beast will at the Allen County Public Library, Cinderella will be at The Landing, and Rapunzel from Tangled will be at PNC Plaza.
Also at PNC Plaza, Spencer Pauquette will be performing from 1-2 p.m. on May 7, followed by Angie Marquardt from 2-4 p.m.
Shoppers and diners at participating locations will receive a contest ticket Friday and Saturday to participate in the Shop, Spin, and Win giveaway. Bring your ticket from local retailers to Visit Fort Wayne, 927 S. Harrison St., to redeem it for a prize or win a gift card to one of the many participating Downtown Fort Wayne businesses.
Dance Collective hosting Heels Class
The Fort Wayne Dance Collective will host a Heels Class on May 20.
Heels is a style of dance that promotes body positivity while combining elements of jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary dance genres.
Dancers are encouraged to wear high heels while working on dance steps to popular music, but they can wear whatever they are comfortable dancing in.
Registration is $13 and can be done at fwdc.org.
TekVenture has workshops for all skills
TekVenture will host nearly 30 hands-on workshops and demonstrations through June 4.
Workshops include arts, crafts, and technology, such as clay working, pit firing, blacksmithing for embellishment, welding, hybrid battery renovation, solar electrics, power tools, painting, and script reading.

A 17-year-old nonprofit member organization, TekVenture is at 1550 Griffin St., just southeast of the Tecumseh Street bridge and next to the beach volleyball courts near downtown Fort Wayne.
Parks Department readies for Senior Games
Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation will host the Senior Games from June 4-July 7 to encourage all adults over 50 to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
To comply with social distancing recommendations, the nearly 30 events will be spread out over a five-week period. Festivities will start with an opening breakfast and health fair along with the torch lighting ceremony with Mayor Tom Henry.
Registration will begin in early May. Anyone interested in volunteering rather than participating should contact Patti Davis (260) 427-6465.
