Influential singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan will commemorate the 30th anniversary of her most successful album with a 30-date North American run next summer.
To celebrate 1993’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, a staple in just about everyone’s collection during the mid-90s, McLachlan will tour the U.S. and her native Canada with a stop scheduled at Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago on June 11, followed by Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill outside Detroit on June 13, Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati on June 14, and Everwise Amphitheatre at White River State Park in Indianapolis on June 16.
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy achieved triple-platinum status in the U.S. and five-time platinum in Canada. In 2022, Pitchfork ranked it 119th on their list of the “150 Best Albums of the 1990s.”
Fellow Canadian singer/songwriter Feist will open the shows.
‘Rich Men’ singer on the road
Viral sensation Oliver Anthony, who emerged out of the woods with the song “Rich Men North of Richmond,” will embark on his Out of the Woods World Tour.
The 41-date trek begins in Europe before heading back to the U.S. in late February. He will come to our area during the summer with a date at the Buckeye Motorcycle and Music Rally in Columbus, Ohio, on June 29, followed by the Bash on the Bay at Put-In-Bay on Aug. 21, Everwise Amphitheatre at White River State Park in Indianapolis on Aug. 23, and the Allegan County Fair, near Jackson, Michigan, the following night.
Silversun Pickups in our area
Touring in support of their 2022 album Physical Thrills, Los Angeles rock quartet Silversun Pickups spent much of last year opening for Greta Van Fleet, but will headline their own shows in 2024.
The 26-date tour includes The Vic Theatre in Chicago on Feb. 27, followed by The Vogue Theatre in Indianapolis on Feb. 29, The State Theatre in Kalamazoo on March 1, The House of Blues in Cleveland on March 2, and Saint Andrew’s Hall in Detroit on March 3.
Hello Mary will support on all dates.
Women have big year in 2023
Last year was a huge success for the concert industry, and it should come as no surprise that Taylor Swift topped all artists with her Eras Tour.
Beyoncé took the second spot, marking the first time in 15 years that two women topped the chart when Madonna and Celine Dion did it in 2008.
Following the ladies at the top were Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band in third place, despite canceling some dates at the end of the year. Coldplay was fourth and Harry Styles was fifth. Rounding out the 2023 Top 10 were Morgan Wallen, surprisingly the only country star in the Top 10, Ed Sheeran, Pink, The Weeknd, and Drake.
Chicago checked in at No. 4 in the Top Markets category.
From smaller venues like Schubas, The Vic, and Thalia Hall to the large venues like United Center, Soldier Field, and Grant Park, Chicago hosts a large variety of music in a large variety of venues. Soldier Field was the biggest winner in 2023 hosting Swift and Beyoncé for multiple sold-out shows along with shows by Wallen, Luke Combs, Karol G, and others.
This year is looking to do just as well at Soldier Field with scheduled shows featuring Kenny Chesney, Stevie Nicks & Billy Joel, The Rolling Stones, George Strait, Metallica, and Pink on the docket.
