It’s been seven years since goth rock favorites The Cure have toured, but that is about to change.
With a new album reportedly ready for release sometime this year, the band is heading out on the Shows of a Lost World tour to support it.
No release date has been scheduled for the band’s 14th studio album, Songs of the Lost World, but frontman Robert Smith has been teasing it more than a year. It’ll be their first release since 2008’s 4:13 Dream.
The tour opens May 10 in New Orleans and stops by United Center in Chicago on June 10, Blossom Music Center outside Cleveland on June 11, and Pine Knob Music Theatre outside Detroit on June 13. The Twilight Sad will open all shows.
In an email to fans, Smith promised, “The Cure have agreed there will be no ‘Platinum’ or ‘Dynamically Priced’ tickets on this tour” in order to help keep tickets affordable for all fans.
Laugh with Fey, Poehler
Former Saturday Night Live co-stars and real-life pals Amy Poehler and Tina Fey will launch their first live comedy tour together in April.
The Tina Fey & Amy Poehler: Restless Leg Tour, billed as a celebration of “30 years of friendship with an evening of jokes, iconic stories, and conversational entertainment,” will stop by The Chicago Theatre on May 20, for their only scheduled show in our region.
Poehler and Fey met in the Windy City during the early 1990s before they were signed as cast members of SNL, where they starred as the first female co-anchors of “Weekend Update.” They also have hosted the Golden Globes Awards four times.
Kid Rock to rock hometown
Rocker Kid Rock has booked a slate of summer shows dubbed the No Snowflakes Summer Concert.
Just a handful of dates have been announced, but one thing is for sure, it’ll be too hot for snowflakes when he plays his hometown shows in Detroit at Little Caesars Arena, July 14-15, with special guest Grand Funk Railroad. It’ll likely be in the ’90s outside and just as hot inside.
Yes, we know the other meaning for “snowflake,” but we don’t get into politics here.
Gov’t Mule covers Floyd
On his Facebook page, Warren Haynes of Gov’t Mule said he was “thrilled to announce the ‘Dark Side of the Mule Summer Tour,’ ” featuring very special guest Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening.
What started as a one-time Halloween performance of Pink Floyd covers that was recorded and released as a live album has grown into a full tour. Haynes said of Dark Side of the Mule: “It’s a blast to perform this material, but our intent is to do it for one final tour in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Dark Side.”
Each night, JBLZE will kick off the show, followed by a Gov’t Mule set which will morph into Dark Side of the Mule.
