Acapella music has gained a huge audience of late with the rise of bands like Pentatonix and Straight No Chaser, as well as VoicePlay.
Slated to perform at the Honeywell Center in Wabash on Jan. 12, VoicePlay first gained the attention of national audiences when they appeared on the fourth season of The Sing-Off, an acapella singing competition on NBC. VoicePlay won over the judges by putting their own touch on hits like Rhianna’s “Pon de Replay,” One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful,” and Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines.” They reached the quarterfinals before being eliminated in an Ultimate Sing-Off Battle.
Continuing to build on the momentum created by the show, the group became a fixture on the touring circuit, honing their craft in front of live audiences in between releasing several albums of original material. VoicePlay promise to show off some of those original songs as well as display their ability to take on timeless classics when they hit the stage in Ford Theater.
A full stage spectacular, VoicePlay ping-pong between eras and styles with inventive and hilarious on-stage theatrics, peppering their “music without music” sound with humorous harmonies and other antics that results in an evening of unique entertainment. Their performance is fit for all ages. — Chris Hupe
