The Why Store
Heads Up! This article is 4 years old.
The pages of Whatzup have chronicled the long story of The Why Store since our beginning. From the band’s days playing in local bars to their run with a major record label in the late ’90s and a subsequent tour opening for John Mellencamp, we’ve chronicled just about everything including their ultimate breakup and reformation a few years later.
Needless to say, Fort Wayne music fans are familiar with the band as they have played various venues in The Fort many, many times over the last couple of decades. Yet, the announcement of any gig by The Why Store is always cause for celebration as the band is a proven commodity and still puts on a great rock show whenever they hit the stage.
Still fronted by singer Chris Shaffer, the group is rounded out by guitarist Troy Steele, drummer Jerome Rieskamp, and bassist Dan Hunt. The band has six albums’ worth of material, including their nationally recognized hits, “Lack of Water” and “Father,” to choose from when creating a setlist, as well as a repertoire of 30 or so additional cover songs and Shaffer’s solo material. The variety gives the audience a chance to hear a wide range of music that makes every The Why Store concert a unique experience.
The band released Live at The Slippery Noodle a couple of years ago, a good representation of their live shows. But you have to see them in person to see why they continue to stay open for business. — Chris Hupe
