The Front Bottoms

Heads Up! This article is 4 years old.

It doesn’t really get any indier than The Front Bottoms, the three-man rock outfit from Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, who, since coming together in 2006, have given us such gems as “Twin Size Mattress,” “Wolfman,” “Handcuffs,” “The Bongo Song” and “The Beers.”

They started out as childhood friends and at one point put out an LP titled My Grandmother vs. Pneumonia. The Front Bottoms – Brian Sella (vocals, guitar), Mathew Uychich (drums) and Tom Warren (bass and vocals) – are the real deal, in other words, and they’ll be at the Clyde Tuesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. as part of their Going Gray tour.

The Front Bottoms have released five studio albums, seven EPs (two of which feature a grandma theme) and nine singles. They’ve performed at Coachella, Austin City Limits, Panorama and Shaky Knees, and last summer they toured with Blink 182 and Frank Turner.

The thing about the Front Bottoms is they can’t be pigeonholed. They’re part 80s pop, part folk, part garage rock, part emo-meets-punk, all cool (and that cool comes naturally because they don’t waste any time trying to be). Maybe that’s why they can put out so many songs about grandmas while still appealing to the hippest kids in town.
