Heads Up! This article is 4 years old.
Ask a popular music experts to name the most successful tribute acts in history, and they are likely to cite the Dark Star Orchestra (which has channeled the Grateful Dead since 1997) and Zoso (which has toured as the “Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience” since 1995).
To any comprehensive list of this sort must be added Super Diamond, who are performing August 30 at the Clyde Theatre.
Super Diamond perform the music of Neil Diamond. It should not be construed as disparagement of the music of Neil Diamond when I write that Super Diamond’s success is a little improbable.
Perhaps surprisingly, among Super Diamond’s biggest fans is Neil Diamond himself, who has performed with the band several times.
Super Diamond, who delivers Diamond’s hits with an alt-rock punch, have achieved a number of other things that tribute acts rarely do: Appear on The Late Night Show with David Letterman and release their own CDs.
Even people who aren’t terribly fond of Diamond’s music might want to partake of the phenomenon that is Super Diamond. You may not understand it, but you won’t want to say you missed it.
