When people think of Fort Wayne music, they, of course, think surf music.
Well, maybe not.
But Strange Waters are on a mission to make that happen. The band is releasing their self-titled debut album and will celebrate by throwing a luau on Feb. 9 at The Ruin. A luau might seem like a crazy idea in the land of corn and cows, but the concept’s goal is to help people forget about the Fort Wayne winter and transport them to a party in the tropics, even if it’s only for one night.
There will, of course, be specialty drink deals, food trucks, unique video and lighting, and just about everything else you’d expect at a luau, with the possible exception of an actual sun, all set up inside the friendly confines of The Ruin. Attendees are encouraged to dress the part by wearing their best “beachy” clothes for the occasion. But guys, as a consideration to the rest of us, please leave the Speedos at home.
Of course, the focus of the night will be on the music. Strange Waters will headline showing off the music from the new EP as well as some favorites from other artists you might already know. In addition, KT3 (Kenny Taylor) and Los Lemons will also be on hand, promising a night full of surfy music that will warm up your insides, even if the weather outside is still freezing. — Chris Hupe
