Vocalist Kelsi Lee and guitarist Jose Manuel “Cote” Godoy began their musical journey together as a duo, traveling through Argentina, writing music and interviewing local folk musicians. The trip proved an invaluable learning experience and a source of endless inspiration. They recorded their first album, Blanco, in Chile on their own dime, earning them a music and culture award from the Chilean government and the chance to tour the U.S. with
Pablo Espinoza.
That was three years ago. Since then, Lee and Godoy, who go by KelsiCote, put out their second studio album, 2016’s The Hum (recorded right here in Fort Wayne), and have played their critically acclaimed brand of world music all over the country. They also assembled a band, the Amig@s, whose members include Colin Boyd on drums, Derek Reeves on viola, Tommy Saul on keys, and Casey Stansifer on bass.
At 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, KelsiCote and the Amig@s will be performing alongside the Fort Dance Collective at the Embassy Theatre as part of the venue’s Summer Nights at the Embassy series. World beats, story-telling, and evocative movement: a truly beautiful friendship.
