A love and mastery of zydeco is often passed down in families from generation to generation, and Louisiana native Jeffery Broussard is no exception. He grew up surrounded by a rich stew of creole music and started playing drums in his father’s band, Delton Broussard & the Lawtell Playboys, at the tender age of eight. At 13, he moved on to the accordion and it was with that instrument that Broussard truly found his voice.
A seminal member of the Zydeco Force, he eventually started his own band, the Creole Cowboys, and is now recognized as one of the country’s best accordionists and one of zydeco’s most exciting fiddle players, as well. Broussard and his mates will take the Foellinger-Freimann Botantical Conservatory stage Friday, July 27, at 8:30 p.m. as part of the venue’s Botanical Roots concert series.
Fort Wayne’s the Legendary Trainhoppers will open the show.
