With a wide variety of festivals taking over Headwaters Park all summer long, food has been one of the most popular themes of all visits downtown for the last few months. But there’s one item that hasn’t really been given its due. One of the most popular breakfast treats of all-time, donuts — and their more sophisticated cousin, pastries — have been sadly overlooked as the star of festival season.

Until now. Next week Fort Wayne hosts its inaugural Donut and Pastry Fest, complete with music and beverages, on Saturday, Sept. 14, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. While the obvious accompaniment to donuts and pastries is coffee — and there will be ample caffeinated drink choices available — adults will be happy to know that there will also be bar open for those with a taste for Bloody Marys and Mimosas.

But the real stars are the carb-laden treats paid homage at the festival. Participating businesses include some of the favorite stops for breakfast sweets, including Tom’s Donuts, Rise’N Roll, Coliseum Donuts, Leo Donuts, Nolt’s Marketplace, Tim Hortons, and Dunkin’ Donuts.

Tickets for the event are $20 and include vouchers for two donuts, one pastry, and two beverages of your choice. Admission of $5 is available for those who just want to attend, listen to some music and purchase a drink, donut, or pastry a la carte.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Fort Wayne Boys and Girls Club, and Invisible Vets of Fort Wayne.
