It’s rare to get a chance to witness a musician as accomplished as Devin the Dude in as intimate of a setting as The Ruin. But you’ll get just such a chance to see the rapper when he visits the establishment on Main Street in Fort Wayne on July 16.
Devin the Dude has more than 20 years of performing under his belt, beginning his career as a member of The Odd Squad on Rap-A-Lot Records, a label that also featured Scarface and Geto Boys, superior heavyweights of the genre.
He went solo in 1998 and released six albums over the next 12 years on Rap-A-Lot, choosing to rap about blunts and beer with a unique mix of humor and reality that set him apart from some of his peers that chose a different avenue by rapping about more sinister topics. Despite the success of those albums, endearing him to fans of underground rap and leading to guest appearances on songs by more widely known artists like De La Soul, Dr. Dre, and Tech N9ne, Devin has remained “Rap’s Best Kept Secret.”
Since splitting with Rap-A-Lot in 2008, Devin has remained active, releasing five more albums and branching out into acting, most notably by starring alongside Lil Duval in the stoner comedy Highway 420.
It’ll be an epic night of rap as the evening with “your rapper’s favorite rapper” also features host P.I. Lee/2030 Muzik, DJ Tubbs on the decks, Fat Guy, Da Classic, Doomzday Cult, 2RQ, and XLNT.
