Shadow dance is all about the body and its ability to transform. Catapult, The Magic Of Dance, appearing October 24 at the Embassy Theatre in Fort Wayne, are on the cutting edge of dance troupes in the genre and fittingly rose to fame on America’s Got Talent, the reality show that aims to promote entertainment that you might not otherwise see on television, in movies, or on stage.
Catapult were formed in 2008, but they gained their notoriety while reaching the semifinals of AGT Season 8. Since their run on that show, Catapult have continued creating new work and pushing the boundaries of the genre while touring worldwide and wowing audiences with dancers behind a screen creating shadow silhouettes.
Catapult prides itself on melding cutting-edge technology with classic technique. Dancers use their bodies to mutate into everything from a dragon to a helicopter and everything in between. The family-friendly performances are full of humor, emotion, and engaging stories, and feature contemporary and classical music choices alongside shadow-illusion dance.
Though they didn’t win their season of America’s Got Talent, mega-star and AGT judge Howard Stern still called Catapult a “million dollar act.”
