The organizers of Fort Wayne’s BBQ Ribfest are helping us get back to normal as they present what has become one of the summers most anticipated annual events. This year’s festival was postponed from the usual Fathers Day weekend and will instead take place July 31 and Aug. 1 in its usual home of Headwaters Park. Unfortunately, because of the events of 2020, the festivities are being trimmed from four days to just two and no national rib teams will compete in the Summit City this year. With that in mind, music is the big draw this time around with a few local food and beverage vendors strategically stationed around the venue to help satisfy any cravings or thirsts you might encounter. Thunderstruck, America’s premier AC/DC tribute band, will perform on opening night, playing all the hits we know in as true a form as you’ll likely ever hear them played without actually seeing the Australian legends themselves. While Thunderstruck are the headliners, you’ll want to get there shortly after the doors open at 6 p.m. to catch opening act The Mark May Band. That band features the former guitarist and vocalist for Dicky Betts & Great Southern. If you’re ears aren’t ringing too badly following that show, stop back on Saturday to check out Rumours ATL, a Fleetwood Mac tribute act that is widely considered to be among the best at playing the songs of the British-American band that has sold over 120 million albums over five decades. Local band Daily Driver, featuring guitarist Don Carr who played with the Oak Ridge Boys for 23 years and has also performed with the likes of Tim McGraw, Earl Thomas Conley, Merle Haggard, Marty Stuart, and even James Brown, will open. Masks will be required to enter.
