At Purdue University-Fort Wayne, students study and work with dedicated faculty to find out what it takes to produce a professional play. Classes that teach acting, directing, and designing major productions result in presentations like the upcoming Antigone.
Antigone is a classic Greek play written by Sophocles that follows the title character as she tries to bury her brother who has died in a civil war. Her quest brings about her own battles, but the essence of the play is how she shows strength in the face of the moral, religious, and political dilemmas that arise. The title character is often seen as theater’s first female hero.
Antigone will be brought to life once again by the Purdue University-Fort Wayne Theatre Department when the curtain rises at the Williams Theatre on the campus of PFW. This marks the first time the university has presented the play in more than 20 years and it is highly relevant given today’s divided political climate.
