Shigs In Pit took to social media to that their final day at their original location at 2008 Fairfield Ave. would be Saturday, Jan. 18.

The restaurant said they will shift focus to their catering business and continue to operate their dine-in and catering at their other two locations, 6250 Maplecrest Road and 8506 Illinois Road.

In the social media post, they called it a business decision, citing rent increases, an expiring lease, and limited parking as factors in the decision.

“The Fairfield location will always hold a special place in our hearts as the birthplace of Shigs In Pit, and we thank everyone who has been part of its journey over the years.

“We look forward to continuing to serve you at our Illinois Road and Maplecrest locations and are excited for what the future holds.”

Shigs In Pit opened on Fairfield Avenue in 2012.

Redwood Inn circles opening date

Redwood Inn, 1432 W. Main St., will re-open soon.

Owners Barry Levy and Melissa Earls took to social media last week to target Tuesday, Jan. 21, as their first day. They’ll start with carryout and delivery and expand to dine in by Feb. 6.

Redwood Inn opened in 1962, but temporarily closed in September. They purchased their historic building outright in December.

Famous Taco opens along Jefferson Boulevard

After several years of setbacks, including some legal issues, Famous Taco is now open in their second location, 6654 W. Jefferson Blvd. in Quintana Plaza just south of The Villages at Time Corners.

Initially, the Fort Wayne Plan Commission denied Martin Quintana’s application for the quick-serve Mexican restaurant, ruling the application was filed improperly.

In November 2022, an Allen Superior Court judge sent the denial back to the plan commission, requesting the application be reconsidered.

Quintana also owns Famous Taco at 4104 N. Clinton St. and Dos Margaritas, 4230 N. Clinton St., near Kroger.

Sonic driving back into Auburn

Sonic Drive-In is planning a return to Auburn.

A development company has filed a request to build just west of State Road 8 and Interstate 69 at 1520 Shook Drive. That’s in the same shopping center that houses Home Depot, Cracker Barrel, Salsa Grill, Paradise Buffet, and Salvatori’s.

An initial plan commission meeting is this week.

Sonic operated in Auburn in that same development until 2010. Around the same time, Fort Wayne had two stores, one on Maplecrest Road and another on Lima Road.

Flat Top Grill leaves Jefferson Pointe

Flat Top Grill, 4150 W. Jefferson Blvd., at Jefferson Pointe closed permanently on Friday, Jan. 10.

A printed sign on the door stated, “After 23 years of serving you, it is time for us to say goodbye. We have loved being a part of the community and will miss you!”

The restaurant did not provide any details as to why it closed abruptly.

Flat Top Grill featured create-your-own stir-fry meals with numerous meat and protein choices, vegetables, and sauces. Their roti bread was always a highlight.

Flat Top Grill now has only two locations: Mishawaka and Chicago.

Auburn Brewing goes on the market

Josh and Emma Metcalf have put Auburn Brewing Company, 309 N. Main St. in Auburn, up for sale, but say they will wait patiently for the right buyer.

Auburn Brewing Company operates from a renovated service station a few blocks north of the DeKalb County Courthouse.

When they opened it in 2018, the Metcalfs were in their mid to late 20s and didn’t have kids. Now, with two kids and busy lives, they are refocusing and want to slow down. And slowing down includes more emphasis on their family.

They are looking for someone who will maintain the business and property together. They say they have no intentions to close it.
