“Historic” and “unprecedented” are apt adjectives with which to describe a concert happening in Wabash on August 13.Sammy Hagar & the Circle will perform at the recently and extensively renovated Eagles Theatre on that date. What makes the show historic and unprecedented? Well, for one thing, the Eagles Theatre seats only 600 people. Honeywell Foundation executive director Tod Minnich said his understanding is that Hagar hasn’t played a venue that small since the 1970s. Another notable thing about the show is the line-up of the Circle, which includes bassist Michael Anthony, who was a member of Van Halen for 32 years, and drummer Jason Bonham, son of the late Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. Jason Bonham performed with Led Zeppelin after his father’s death. As neither Van Halen nor Led Zeppelin are in existence anymore, Sammy Hagar & the Circle is as close as fans will ever get to those acts. Minnich said he has been pursuing Hagar for years.“Even when he does theater tours, he is playing 2,500- to 4,000-seat theaters,” he said. “It just seemed like such a great opportunity with the Eagles reopening.”Minnich fully understands that this is a big gamble. Tickets won’t be cheap. The prices haven’t been officially set, but Minnich thinks they will range from $100 into the thousands of dollars. The Eagles now has two viewing suites and Minnich has not yet figured out a fee for renting those. Even the theater’s opera box, rarely used, will be rented out. Minnich believes that Hagar fans will travel from distant locales for this opportunity. “For us, if we’re able to gather the audience that wants that experience, our hope is that we’re able to do this with other artists who are willing to step out on that stage,” he said.
