It appears there are plans for the vacated space at Broadway Plaza, formerly occupied by Trubble Brewing before it moved out this fall for a spot that has still not being disclosed.
While we await Trubble Brewing’s new spot, it appears representatives with Rune Restaurant, which has operated as a pop-up, are planning to open up shop at 2725 Broadway, where a sign was recently put up: “Rune Neighborhood Restaurant, Coming 2024.”
When contacted about plans, chef and owner Sean Richardson referred us to a description on their website: “Rune is a neighborhood restaurant and Rune is a fine dining restaurant. Rune is cozy, warm, and inviting. The food is intentional and best when enjoyed with friends in a casual and conversational way.
“Rune is a restaurant in Fort Wayne inspired by a chef who grew up in Indiana who has been illuminated by and fallen in love with both fine dining restaurants and neighborhood haunts. Most importantly the food at Rune is thoughtful and delicious.”
The website also lists daytime hours of 10 a.m.-3 p.m. set for Friday-Monday, as well as 5-9 p.m. on Friday.
They also have wine from growers and vignerons that practice sustainability, as well as a “small and evolving cocktail menu,” highlighting locally grown ingredients.
Along with all that, you can count on delicious dishes that have had folks in the area keeping tabs on their pop-ups appearances in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis.
Wings Etc. opens on Illinois Road
The latest store in the growing Wings Etc. empire is now open at 8388 Illinois Road, marking the fourth restaurant in Fort Wayne, alongside locations on Bluffton, Dupont, and Maysville roads.
To celebrate, the first 50 customers through the door on Tuesday, Nov. 28, received a coupon book for seven free wings per week over the course of a year.
Along with this being the fourth location in Fort Wayne, you can also find Wings Etc. in Angola, Bluffton, Columbia City, Decatur, Huntington, Wabash, and Warsaw. In total, Wings Etc. has grown to 80 locations in 13 states since being founded by Jim Weave in the South Bend area.
Dirty Dough opens on Dupont
Speaking of openings, Dirty Dough is now open for business in the Northbrook Shopping Center, 1525 W. Dupont Road.
Located near Arena Bar and Grill, Black Canyon, and Laz’s Cuban Cafe, it’s the first Dirty Dough in northern Indiana. They have a handful of so-called “stuffed” cookie shops around Indianapolis and about 20 stores throughout the U.S.
They bill their goodies as unique, messy, flavor-rich treats. And by messy, they mean multilayered cookies and brownie concoctions packed with ingredients.
Dairy Queen leaves Coliseum Boulevard
There’s one less Dairy Queen in Fort Wayne.
Recently, the ice cream shop at 1818 Coliseum Blvd. North closed, and Georgios King Gyros is setting up shop.
A sign on the door directs customers to nearby Dairy Queen stores on North Anthony Boulevard and St. Joe Center Road.
Across the parking lot, the message board sign announced that a Facebook page, “The King of Gyros,” has been set up for the new joint. There’s a short video showing off the empty eatery and other branding.
This store is not connected with other King Gyros locations in Fort Wayne.
The 205 closes in Churubusco
The 205 in downtown Churubusco is closed.
Owners made that announcement on their Facebook page this weekend.
“We are saddened to say we are closing permanently starting immediately,” the post said. “We tried our best and had great support from friends and family. We will miss seeing all your faces.”
In that post, owners said they will continue to offer catering and make the building at 202 S. Whitley St. available for rentals.
Give a toy, receive a Parlor doughnut
There’s still time to contribute to the Parlor Doughnuts toy drive.

There are also holiday custard and holiday sprinkle doughnuts, and many, if not most, have gluten- and vegan-friendly varieties. They also have peppermint mocha and lattes, White Christmas and Glad Tidings lattes, Sleighrider coffee, and foamy Red Rider hot chocolate drinks.
