We were expecting a big turnout for the grand opening of Parlor Doughnuts on Saturday and Sunday, and we were correct. There was a constant flow of a few dozen customers wrapped around the small store at 11936 Lima Crossing Drive, just east of Lima and Carroll roads in northwest Allen County.

Of course, it didn’t hurt that the shop was offering a free doughnut for signing up in advance for their e-mail list.

Owned by the Vogt family, Parlor Doughnuts is intended to be a cozy gathering place for the community. It has fresh-baked goods, sandwiches, and specialty drinks.

Their specialty is layered doughnuts, and some of the early favorites include French Toast, Cookies n’ Cream, Blueberry Hill, Maple Bacon, Bourbon Caramel, Carnival, and Chocolate Chocolate.

There’s even a doughnut for man’s best friend, the Doggie Doughnut.

The shop offers vegan, gluten-free, keto, and low-carb items, as well as iced coffees and lattes. There is also espresso and a cappuccino.

Parlor Doughnuts launched in Evansville but has grown to six other Indiana locations, including Indianapolis and Bloomington, and 12 other states.

Pair of vendors leaving Union Street Market

Union Street Market will soon have a couple of vacant spaces at Electric Works. Bragg A Lot Sweets & Drinks and B&B Market have announced that they will be moving on.

Bragg A Lot Sweets and Drinks announced a few weeks ago they were looking to start a food truck, while B&B Market said they were struggling as food traffic didn’t meet expectations. Operators say they’ll focus on their market and restaurant in Warsaw.

In a Facebook post in late July, Bragg A Lot owners said they would not renew their lease and are transitioning to a dessert/food truck they hope to have operational for the 2024 season. In the meantime, they’ll have pop-up events every few weeks. The post teased that more news is coming, but they wanted to “wait till the deal is signed.”

Officials with Union Street Market said it is not uncommon for some businesses to succeed and for others to struggle.

An announcement is expected soon on what is going into the soon-to-be empty spots.

Gravy-themed roller coaster at Holiday World

Indiana amusement park Holiday World in Santa Claus is planning a roller coaster devoted to gravy.

The gravy train, as it were, features huge gravy boats as cars. It’s labeled Good Gravy! America’s Graviest Coaster.

Park officials say the $10 million, 1,500-foot-long ride will rise some 77 feet into the air and pass through Thanksgiving-themed foods such as a can of cranberry sauce, stuffing, a cooking timer, and a rolling pin. Construction is expected to be complete in early May.
