That escalated quickly. Last week, we shared that Alto Grado Pizza was closing its storefront on The Landing. Now, another pizza shop, Papi’s Pizza, is poised to replace it by this fall.

Papi’s is the latest Columbia Street project from the owners of Mercado and their company, Te Gustó Hospitality. Mercado operates next door at 111 W. Columbia St.

When it opens, Papi’s will offer pizza by the slice with a 1990s vibe. The menu will likely include subs and bruschetta.

Along with Papi’s Pizza, Te Gustó, owned by Johnny Perez and his wife, Elsi, plan to unveil Spoke & Ivy in the Flats on Main at 1402 W. Main. Black Rabbit’s bar will operate in the basement.

State fair adds 30 new artery cloggers

In addition to traditional favorites, the Indiana State Fair is boasting 30 new items this year. Here are a few of the items that caught my attention.

BBQ Pork Wings: Tender meat comes from the bottom of the ham and has a bone that works as a built-in handle.

Bratchos: Tortilla chips topped with bratwurst, jalapeño peppers, salsa, sour cream, and queso.

Buffalo Pork-n-Mac: Pulled pork, buffalo sauce, and ranch dressing.

Chocolate Glazed Popcorn: Old-fashioned popcorn with a chocolate glaze with a touch of salt

Deep Fried Sandwich Cookie Ale: It sounds like a mug full of sudsy cookie love. Just in case you need more punch, there’s also a S’more Bourbon Shake.

Street Corn Pizza: If you like street corn tacos, street corn pizza is up your alley.

Hoosier Burger Mango: Plant-based burger with vegan cheese.

Nutellaphant Ear: Elephant ear with Nutella, strawberries, bananas, and powdered sugar.

Smoking Hot Wicked Chicken N Waffles: Chicken tenders served between waffles with hot honey and Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. Consider this your warning label.

The state fair runs from July 28-Aug. 20 and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
