Local rockers Wolfbearhawk have landed themselves the opening slot for the upcoming MC50 show at the Clyde Theatre on Saturday, Aug. 31. A call from the Clyde is something the band has waited for since their opening according to drummer Marc Accilien.
“We have been having dreams about playing the Clyde since long before they opened and to play with a band like MC50,” Accilien said. “This is unreal.”
They have every right to be stoked as MC50 frontman Wayne Kramer has assembled quite an all-star cast of musicians to hit the road with in support of the 50th Anniversary of MC5’s debut release, Kick Out the Jams. That includes members from such acts as Soundgarden, Faith No More, Fugazi, and Zen Guerrilla.
Wolfbearhawk will have no problem stepping up to the plate as by no means are they wet-behind-the-ears having paid their dues in numerous bands over the years including Lollygaggers, Pwince, Samsara, Tested on Animals, Autovator, West-Central Quartet, and I, Wombat — all bands that have made an impact on our vibrant local scene.
Bump into vocalist/guitarist Chad Frey, bassist/vocalist Darren Monroe, guitarist Jason Howey, or Accilien on the street and I’m sure they would be more than happy to discuss their past endeavors and the ride thus far with Wolfbearhawk, a ride that began in 2015 and includes a Middle Waves performance and opening slots for touring acts such as Valient Thorr, The Dead Deads, American Sharks, Taco Mouth, and Black Actress.
As for the band’s future, “We have a recording that we’re working on in our studio that we are putting out in one format or another later this year,” Accilien said. “Then the plan is to sit back and let the money pour in from that and play shows here and there whenever we get bored with our ultra-extravagant lifestyles.”
All that being said, the MC50 show will be one to arrive on time for. Tickets are still available at Clydetheatre.com, the Clyde box office, all three Wooden Nickel locations, Neat Neat Neat Records, and Sweetwater Sound, or by calling (800) 514-3849. Well done, Wolfbearhawk!
