The old Recovery Room building at 1332 W. Main St. was recently purchased with plans for a new entertainment venue in the already eclectic neighborhood. Renovations have included a fresh coat of paint, bright new signage, and a beautiful mural.
The result is The Muse on Main. This all-ages venue will allow artists, crafters, entertainers, and musicians to mingle under one roof. According to its website, The Muse promotes the growth and advancement of local musicians and artists by placing them in front of an audience that formerly had been confined to local bars and clubs.
The Muse on Main has a grand opening weekend slated for Oct. 25 and 26. On Friday, you can enjoy live music by The Scratch N’ Sniffs from Pittsburgh, Pa., Rehab After Party, Venus in Jeans, and Nifty Skullet. Saturday will feature Best Sleep, The Paper Heart, and Adam Baker and the Heartache. Doors will open for both evenings at 6 p.m. and will run you $8 per day. In addition, on Oct. 27 and 28, The Muse will host an arts and craft market from 5-9 p.m.
Paying homage to the band
The Last Waltz was a concert by Canadian rockers The Band, held on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25, 1976, at Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. Advertised as The Band’s “farewell concert appearance,” it featured an all-star cast of special guests including Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Ringo Starr, and Neil Young.
Now almost 43 years later, an array of local musicians will pay homage to the iconic concert on Friday, Oct. 18, at the Philmore on Broadway.
The core of the band will be Jon Ross, Tommy Saul, Jon Swain, Atticus Sorrell, and Jared Andrews. A number of special guests will sit in throughout the evening, including Kenny Taylor, Addison Agen, Mitch Frazier, Colin Boyd, and Phil Schurger.

Famed pianist Plays at Sweetwater
On Friday, Oct. 18, the Sweetwater Performance Theatre will welcome celebrated pianist and composer George Winston. He’s inspired fans and musicians alike with his singular solo acoustic piano songs for more than 40 years while selling 15 million albums. His most recent record is titled Restless Wind.
I’m certain we’ll hear some of the new compositions as well as his perennial favorites that evening with the pristine sound quality of the state-of-the-art theatre. Tickets are available through Eventbrite.com.
Celebrating the brewerks
Summit City Brewerks will be celebrating their five-year anniversary with a week-long celebration Oct. 7-12. Each day will feature something different including drink and food specials, Brewerks Trivia, special beer tappings, free anniversary beer koozies, Mug Club & Flight Club appreciation night, and of course live music.
Taking the stage on Friday, Oct. 11, will be Left Lane Cruiser and on Saturday, Oct. 12, is The Taj Maholics. Here’s to five more years!
