Bird & Cleaver will host a unique contest of great focus on Saturday, Aug. 15. The Wells Street eatery is sponsoring a staring contest for those of you with an icy stare or steely glaze. This bracket-style contest starts at 6 p.m. and will be all about pageantry and fun. Masks are required, but a prize for best mask will be awarded. There will also be a special guest emcee and referee on hand. All proceeds will be donated to Friends & Family Fund. To enter the staring contest, email birdandcleaver@gmail.com. Get those eye muscles in shape and prepare to walk away with the top prize.Warren musicGolfo di Napoli Caffé in Warren, Ind., has kept patrons entertained this summer with plenty of live music. Located at the front of Golfo di Napoli Dairy, an organic cheese plant, the caffé offers mozzarella and burrata cheeses along with Italian fare such as paninis, salads, and freselle. It also boasts a variety of coffees and imported Italian wine and Peroni beer. The caffé’s music calendar includes performances by Adam Strack on Aug. 1 and Adam Baker and the Heartache on Aug. 7. These evening affairs begin at 6 p.m. Outdoor seating is limited and available on a first come, first serve basis, so you might want to bring a lawn chair or blanket with you. In case of inclement weather, the show will be moved indoors. Five Metal songs Local metal stalwarts Static Fly will release a five-song EP titled Black Mass on Friday, July 31. Recorded at Sweetwater Studios, this gem will be available through numerous streaming platforms with physical copies coming mid-August. For a taste of the new material, the band put together a couple videos for the tracks “All in my Head” and “Nowhere to Hide” which can be found on YouTube and on the band’s Facebook page. Mitchell goes to boston Local guitar slinger Damon Mitchell recently released a music video for his new single “In Boston” which he wrote when he was thirteen. Eleven years later, the song is seeing the light of day with a great video to boot. You can check out the video on YouTube and let me just say, it is professionally done and well worth the watch. A live version of the track can also be found on Mitchell’s latest effort, Tell Us Something We Don’t Know. Upcoming gigs for Mitchell include Auburn Brewing Company on July 31, Hop River Brewing Company on Aug. 22, and Crescendo Café at Sweetwater on Sept. 11.
