One of the most respected singer-songwriters of all time, Brian Wilson, will be making his way to the Embassy Theatre on Aug. 10.

Wilson is one of popular music’s most deeply revered figures, the main creative force behind some of the most cherished recordings in rock history. Heck, he was barely out of his teens when he began to co-write classics with The Beach Boys.

You’ll be able to hear some of those treasures when Brian Wilson: Pet Sounds + Greatest Hits invades the Embassy stage that evening with special guests Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin.

The influential 1966 album Pet Sounds is considered to be one of the most cherished recordings in rock history. It reached No. 10 and featured hit singles “Sloop John B” and “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.”

Clearly, this is going to be something to feast your eyes and ears on. Tickets for this show go on sale Friday, May 10, at 10 a.m.

Library Circulates Rock the Plaza schedule

Soon folks will be making their way to the lawn of the Downtown Allen County Public Library for the summer concert series Rock the Plaza. The family-friendly event has become quite the gem over the years and your source for free live music.

All you have to do is bring a blanket or lawn chair every Saturday at 6 p.m. throughout the summer and unwind from the long workweek.

Rock the Plaza will kick-off on Saturday, June 1, with Beatlefest featuring music by The Wailhounds, Heady Times, The Harp Condition, and Sunny Taylor and Family. The series will run until August 24 and feature such acts as Brian Lemert, Unlikely Alibi, Uncle Muscle, Moser Woods, Daily Driver, El Camino Hot Tub, and The Band Brother along the way.

One of the more intriguing nights will be July 20 when the Three Rivers Festival fireworks light up the downtown sky. There’s probably not a better seat in town to watch the display then at RTP.

That evening there will also be live music by APQ Harmonic, Phil’s Family Lizard, Sunny Taylor Band, and Moser Woods to coincide with the fireworks. Hop on over to the RTP Facebook page for the complete summer schedule.

School of rock at Flashback Live

The School of Rock will be showcasing their hard work Saturday, May 18, at Flashback Live. Beginning at 1 p.m., the students will put on five different shows with the last one kicking off around 9:15 p.m.

The first performance group to take the stage will pay homage to The Beatles. So many great tunes to choose from out of that extensive catalog. Next, it will be time to relive the Teen Spirit-scented nostalgia and break out the flannels as the next group will perform your favorite ’90s tunes.

If that’s not grungy enough for you, then spike your hair up and get ready to punk it out when they kick out some killer tunes from the Riot Grrrl era. For some local musicians, this is forging into some uncharted territory as we don’t see a whole lot of local acts performing the era. This should be interesting.

In any event, it will be a nice transition when the New Wave of British Heavy Metal pair of with Iron Maiden vs. Judas Priest. No doubt, there will be some guitar shredding go on from this SOR group. To close out the night, the last performance group will perform all your favorite glam rock hits. This all-ages show will have a little something for everyone to enjoy. Also, the Rock 101 kids will perform between each act. Tickets for this all-day event are $10 in advance and can be picked up at School of Rock or from your favorite student.
