The local scene seems a lot less cool with the recent passing of Daniel Carnall, aka Chilly Addams, who lost his battle with lung cancer at the age of 49.

Whether you knew him from his time on local radio, as an official with Fort Wayne Roller Derby, at Taylor Rental, as host of Chilly’s Talent & Tacos at the Latch String, or out performing solo or with bands like Phil’s Family Lizard and Black Door, his time here was special to all of us.

That was made apparent with the amount of family and friends that took to social media to show their love for this Fort Wayne fixture.

In addition, his illness was the cause for an all-star cast of local musicians to get together recently to perform one of Chilly’s original songs, “Jennifer Star.” JJ Fabini, Matt McCoy, Kyle Haller, Kenny Taylor, Clint Roth, Jamie Simon, Kelly Tellef, Quincy Sanders, Paul Stephens, Monica Hadsall, and more put their touches on the song coincided with a nice video.

We could take these words of advice Chilly shared a while back on his Facebook page, “Remember, most of things you’re struggling with today don’t really matter. Focus on happiness for you, and every stranger you meet. Greet everyone with a smile.”

Well said, Chilly. You will be missed!

Addison Agen Kickstarts album

Fort Wayne’s own Addison Agen has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for recording her new album. The talented singer-songwriter has an entire new album written of what she calls a collection of songs woven together with themes of nostalgia, acceptance, hopefulness, and joy.

In order for this to see the light of day, there are a number of expenses that need to be taken care of: studio time, creating physical copies, promotion, distribution, and travel and lodging. She has set a goal of raising $30,000 in 30 days.

However, Kickstarter is an all-or-nothing crowdfunding website. If she doesn’t meet the goal, she won’t get any of the money.

If you want to help make this dream a reality, there are several different options. The more you donate, the more you receive, including a digital copy of the album, a CD, signed poster, T-shirt, handwritten lyrics, a 20-minute Skype call with Agen, tickets for a hometown listening party, your name featured in the liner notes of the album, a private house concert, and more.

To donate, go to Kickstarter.com and search Addision Agen. At press time, about $23,000 has been pledged with less than two weeks remaining to raise $30,000.

’90s night at the rail

The Brass Rail is set to host ’90s Night on Saturday, Dec. 28, at 10 p.m. I don’t know if you need to come dressed in a flannel shirt and stonewashed jeans, but you should be ready to take in some good tunes from that era. Hitting the stage are Big Money and the Spare Change performing the music of The Presidents of the United States of America, Dadfish (featuring members of Elephants in Mud, Boat Show, Unlikely Alibi) performing numbers from Sublime, and Fiona Applebee’s doing a wide variety of your favorite ’90s hits. Plus, Erie Guardless will be doing a ’90s DJ set. This will be fun!
