Earlier this year, Middle Waves organizers made the announcement that after a three-year run they were taking the year off. There were mixed feelings as the two-day festival would not invade Headwaters Park in 2019 with an eclectic mix of local and national acts.
However, MW assured us that they would be back in 2020 “bigger and better.” The only question was when and where? A few months went by before MW posted the dates for June 12 and 13, 2020. Then we were hit with a massive announcement that the festival will take place that weekend at the industrial Electric Works campus. Outstanding!
The new location will see 20-plus performers on three different stages, food trucks, beverages, interactive art, and an array of other jaw-dropping events. After seeing how they used Headwaters the past three years, I can only imagine what they will do at Electric Works. Additional information on the festival will be released early next year.
Three Local Acts join forces for show
A trio of former Whatzup Battle of the Bands veterans will be teaming up for a special performance at the Brass Rail on Saturday, Nov. 9.
One of the acts is none other than Left Lane Cruiser who remain an absolute workhorse with album releases and constant touring.
The other two acts haven’t performed together in quite some time, although members maintain a heavy presence in our local music scene. I’m speaking of Kantis and Definitely Gary. If you’re in tune with the scene, you know the impact these two once had and how big of a deal it is to some of them to resurge for a one-night affair.
With those three acts joining forces, this is guaranteed to be a real barnburner and will indeed bring out some familiar faces.
Pedro the lion Documentary
On Saturday, Oct. 26, Neat Neat Neat Records will be host to a movie screening of the documentary Strange Negotiations. From award-winning filmmaker Brandon Vedder, the film explores the spiritual, artistic, and personal turmoil of musician David Bazan from the band Pedro the Lion. The film premiered at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and so far has only been available for viewing at festivals around the country, a small number of theaters, and special preview screenings. Hats off to Neat Neat Neat for snagging this.
The film is slated to start at 8 p.m. that evening. If you have any inkling of attending, then I highly suggest you get an advance ticket through Eventbrite.com.
Lang set to return to the fort
Not too long after The Clyde Theatre opened its doors, guitar virtuoso Jonny Lang rolled through town for a stellar performance. A year later, Lang returned with JJ Grey & Mofro, this time at the Sweetwater Pavilion.
Both shows were outstanding. If you were one of the lucky folks in attendance and still wanting more, then there’s good news.
Lang has Fort Wayne on his calendar once again, this time on Thursday, April 30, at The Clyde. General admission and reserved seating tickets for the Grammy-winning Lang go on sale Oct. 18. Don’t miss this one!
