The B-Side at One Lucky Guitar continues to book some impressive shows at their downtown design and marketing boutique. These intimate shows provide a connection between artist and audience that you just don’t get at bigger venues. One show at the venue that I’m stoked for is on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 9 p.m. That evening they will host rebel rocker Ike Reilly and guitar slinger Johnny Hickman. Some of you may know Hickman being the axe man and co-founder of the rock band Cracker. You might have seen him when Cracker performed at the Three Rivers Festival in 2016. Reilly, the Chicago-based singer-songwriter, is no stranger to the area, having performed in the Fort on a number of occasions over the years including the inaugural Middle Waves. Together, Reilly and Hickman are touring the states this fall and plan on trading songs of love, lust, patriotism, and dissidence. Tickets are available through Eventbrite for $15.
On Sunday, Nov. 11, from 5-8 p.m., The Big Apple Jazz Club Series returns to the Wunderkammer Co. on Fairfield Avenue. Singer-songwriter Trinell Armour a.k.a. The Mad Scatter will perform. Armour is a 20-year veteran in our local music scene, performing and writing gospel, R&B, house/EDM, and jazz. As recording artist and CEO of Mad Scatter Music, the improvisational vocalist explores “scatting” in her music by incorporating Indian, alternative, soul, and classic rock into an inspiring jazz fusion experience. Most recently, Armour released her debut single, “Wrong Turn,” which features Alicia Pyle. You can find that gem on a few different online streaming sites. Trinell will be backed by Michael Patterson on bass and Eric Clancy on keyboard. Julia Meek will host the event and there will also be a cash bar. Look for tickets on Eventbrite.
The last year or so, I was hearing talks of Umphrey’s McGee coming to town. I heard rumblings of two or three different venues that could possibly bring the jam band to town. But it wasn’t until a couple weeks ago that there was finally truth to the rumors as the Clyde Theatre announced they would bring Umphrey’s to town on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2019. Hallelujah! Whether you’re a fan or not, that’s a pretty good booking. This band has a cult following and even had a three-night residency at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado back in July. Another cool thing is that our own Moser Woods will open the show. That’s an accomplishment the boys will proudly put on their resume. These tickets aren’t going to last long.
