Although local musician Hope Arthur moved to Chicago in 2017, she continues to perform and collaborate with artists here in the Fort.

One project is the indie/electronic duo Silbo Gomero, comprised of Arthur and local composer/performer Kurt Roembke. Together, they combine experimental pop, classical, and video game music to create sonic landscapes of varying atmospheres. Their sound draws inspiration from artists like Bjork and Thom Yorke and game composers like Disasterpeace and Ben Babbitt.

The band is about to release its debut album, Here Comes the Beast, on Apr. 23.

“We’re really excited to release our debut album,” Arthur said. “It’s been years in the making and it feels good to finally have it from our hearts to your ears.”

The album consists of nine tracks including “Haiku Song,” “Whale Fall,” and “Bellcast.” You can pre-order the album now on Bandcamp.com for only seven bucks or more if you so kindly choose.

In addition, they even created a unique visual world for the album that can be explored in a four-song interactive music video.

“Due to the pandemic, we are holding off on booking shows until we feel safe,” Arthur said. “The music video will allow us to engage with our audiences in a new way.”

The video link can be found on Silbo Gomero’s Facebook page.

In other Arthur news, she still plays accordion for Chicago’s Mucca Pazza, which was due to perform at the Brass Rail until the pandemic. Hopefully, we will see that outfit come to town in the not-so-distant future.

ACD Museum Hosts Concert Series

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum will host a Classic Car Concert Series the last Thursday of each month from April through August.

Make the trek to Auburn where you will enjoy an evening of music, food, and drinks. This free, family-friendly event is the perfect opportunity for folks to get outdoors and enjoy the community again.

In addition to some of the best musical talent from Northeast Indiana, there will be local craft wine from Country Heritage Winery, beer from Mad Anthony Brewing, and food from Shigs in Pit.

The event will run from 5:30-8 p.m. at the museum plaza, 1600 S. Wayne St., Auburn. Attendees are encouraged to display their favorite vehicles in the parking lot and bring blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the event.

The music lineup for the concert series includes Whoa, Man! on April 29, Addison Agen on May 27, Night to Remember on June 24, The Hubie Ashcraft Band on July 29, and Big Caddy Daddy on Aug. 26.

Mad Anthony Open Mic

Open Mic Night is back at Mad Anthony Brewing! Starting on April 22, local musicians are encouraged to take part every Thursday from 7-10 p.m. at the downtown brewpub.

If you have no musical talent, don’t worry. Sit back and enjoy while throwing back a tasty brew. Host Mike Conley will curate these fun-filled music nights.

DMX

As you may have seen by now, rapper Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, sadly passed away on Apr. 9 at the age of 50. DMX was scheduled to perform at Piere’s next month.
