An actor from one of the highest-grossing movies of 1980 is coming to town in a few days. To be honest, it’s not a household name, but this actor played Jason Vorhees as a child in the horror cult classic Friday the 13th.

Ari Lehman is not exactly an A-list celebrity, but he did share the screen with Kevin Bacon, if that says anything. Lehman didn’t do much acting after the film and years later formed a punk-metal band called First Jason which allows him to continue to exploit his small amount of acting fame.

On Saturday, Dec. 22, First Jason will be slashing their way to town to perform at The Ruin along with local favs Grave Robber and Rock N Roll Devils. Lehman is the frontman for the band, screeching Vorhees-influenced lyrics and playing the keytar.

That’s right, the dude plays a machete-shaped keytar, which is even more of a reason to come out to The Ruin.

If you’re a horror junkie, then consider this band as the inner voice of Jason, since many of the songs reference Friday the 13th: “Jason’s Bride,” “Jason Never Dies!” and “Machete Is My Friend.”

Anyhow, this will be an evening worth getting a sitter for. If anything, come out and shoot the breeze with Lehman and see what it’s like growing up a Vorhees. Five bucks is all this show will run you.

Take a soak in El Camino Hot Tub’s new EP

A car that was famous back when Friday the 13th was making its run was the Chevrolet El Camino, and its name has been resurrected by a local act.

El Camino Hot Tub is one of the latest funk bands to hit the local scene. This seven-piece outfit has been playing at a championship level and gaining street cred since their formation in July. The band consists of Topher Beyer (vocals), Michael Newsome (guitar), Ryne Wemhoff (bass), Drew Seabold (drums), Amber Feichter (saxophone), Sawyer Green (trombone), and Ty Fry (trumpet).

Together, the band has performed an abundance of local gigs and has plans to release an EP on Saturday, Dec. 29. The four-song EP, Glow in the Dim, will be available on CD and as a download. You’ll actually be able to snag a copy at their show that evening at O’Sullivan’s, so make sure to bring a few extra bucks with you.

You’ll be able to feast your ears on the new numbers and also taking in performances by Three Cities and Fields and Fortress. Until then, you can hit them up on social media to hear the title track. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for El Camino Hot Tub in 2019.
