Despite some concerns that one of Fort Wayne’s favorite holiday traditions might fall victim to the long list of 2020 cancellations, the Embassy Theatre has announced that the Festival of Trees is still on for its 36th edition. There will be some changes to meet the requirements of health officials, who were consulted in the planning process. The changes allow the event to move forward while meeting all protocols.Trees will fill the Indiana Hotel and Embassy lobbies using the first floor only, and traffic will move one direction to allow for social distancing. Santa Land returns in a virtual format. The very popular Breakfast with Santa will likely sell out quickly due to reduced seating capacity, but the Embassy is making additional Santa plans for December to accommodate demand. Stage activities will still be a key component of the event, but timed tickets will allow for crowd control and breaks for cleaning of the facility’s commonly used areas. For those not ready to head to the event this year, a virtual version will be available as well. Although a bit different this time around, Festival of Trees will still offer 40 beautifully decorated trees and plenty of holiday spirit. For information about the schedule and tickets, visit fwembassytheatre.org.Holiday PotteryThose hearty art fans who missed out on a summer of fairs and festivals must be heartened to see some annual events are finding their way back to our calendars. One such returning favorite is the Just a Bunch of Potters 21st Annual Holiday Pottery Exhibit and Sale. The event is being held at North Pointe Woods clubhouse at 8202 Riveroak Drive in northwest Fort Wayne, off North Clinton between Auburn and Wallen roads. Hours will be 3-7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 7-8. The hope is that those who can attend in the early hours of Friday try to do so, limiting crowds when others stop by after work. Masks are required, and capacity is being limited. The potters will be properly distanced, and hand sanitizer will be available. If you are still limiting possible exposure, all precautions are being taken to allow for this event to take place so that those looking for unique gifts for the holiday season can get their shopping done early while avoiding crowded spaces. There’s a little something for everyone this year with a talented slate of artists on tap. To see a few of the things available, check out the Just a Bunch of Potters event page on Facebook.Promenade ParkThere’s a big week on tap at Promenade Park in the days before and following Thanksgiving. A Sensory Friendly Night of Lights takes place at the park on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 6-10 p.m. For those sensitive to crowds and noise, this Night of Lights is designed to provide a comfortable alternative to noisier events. Attendees need not require sensory-friendly activities —feel free to come by if you just prefer a calmer, quieter version of the annual opening of the holiday season. Admission is $5.Saturday, Nov. 28, will be the Holly Trolley Shopping experience, and this year Promenade Park will be a stop along the way. The day promises Riverfront merchandise which they describe as “river and promenade-themed art from local vendors.”You can also join the silent auction to bid on eco-art murals featuring Promenade Park and other proud Fort Wayne themes, all produced by the local community with recycled bottle caps. Winter themed beverages and snacks will also be available for purchase.” Admission is free for the event which will run from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
