The City of Fort Wayne’s Public Works Division and the Fort Wayne Public Art Commission have selected a sculptural artist and concept that will be installed at the center of the Five Points roundabout at Goshen Avenue and Sherman Boulevard.

Artist Susan Zoccola’s proposed sculpture, “5 Point Spin,” will stand 28 feet tall and 30 feet wide. It is inspired by the history of the site, the neighborhood, and the Lincoln Highway. The wheel-inspired sculptural “tree” is representative of all the wheels that have traveled through the intersection over the past 100 years. LED lights will allow the scuplture to be seen at night.

“I hope to help to create a colorful visual anchor, which enhances this major gateway to Fort Wayne, that celebrates, uplifts, and unifies the city, and greets residents and visitors throughout the year,” Zoccola said.

Work is currently in the engineering stage, with fabrication scheduled to begin in October. The sculpture will be completed in 2022, with installation scheduled for June. To read a copy of the Art for All! Public Art Master Plan, visit FortWaynePublicArt.com.

The town’s country-style fair highlights the area’s Amish heritage and encompasses streets lined with 130 craft booths and food stands. There are old fashioned contests, such as spelling bees, a baby crawl, jump roping, apple peeling, nail driving, cross-cut sawing, and apple pie baking.
