Still more theaters are gearing up for the 2019-20 season with announcements last week from First Presbyterian Theater, which just celebrated its 50th anniversary, and Three Rivers Music Theatre, which has just completed its third season.
First Presbyterian
First Presbyterian kicks off its season with the backstage comedy Stage Kiss, a play written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Christopher J. Murphy which runs Sept. 5-21.
Chapatti, written by Christian O’Reilly and directed by Rae Surface runs Oct. 3-19 and features performances by FPT’s Artistic Director Thom Hofrichter and his wife Nancy Kartholl.
Two special Christmas productions are featured this year with Christmas Songs and Stories, featuring pieces compiled and directed by Hofrichter running Nov. 30-Dec. 15 and The Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris and also directed by Hofrichter running for two shows only on Dec. 21 and 22.
Beyond Glory, which features firsthand accounts of World War II as well as the Korean and Vietnam wars, runs Jan. 2-18 while the season concludes with two enormously well-known plays: Tennessee Williams’ Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (Feb. 20-March 7) and Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale (April 16-May 7).
Three Rivers Season
First up for TRMT is Carrie: The Musical, based on the Stephen King novel and Sissy Spacek film, which runs July 5-27 at Wunderkammer Company.
The Wild Party, an Andrew Lippa musical based on Joseph Moncure March’s 1928 poem of the same name, runs Feb. 21-March 14 at The Philmore on Broadway, and Tick, Tick…Boom!, a musical by Rent creator Jonathan Larson, runs April 24-May 9 at the Three Rivers Music Theatre’s Pearl Street Studios.
Fort Wayne Youtheatre
Fort Wayne Youtheatre has not yet announced its upcoming season although they did already preview what is sure to be a popular holiday show when they bring the area premier of Disney’s Frozen Jr.
They will announce their full season on May 17 at their Volunteer/Donor celebration before the opening of Rapunzel, which also features a morning performance on May 18 as well as a sensory-friendly performance on May 16.
Jefferson Pointe
The always popular Friday Nights Live at Jefferson Pointe moves to the lawn area due to possible construction around the usual fountain stage. But the band lineup remains reliably great, a perfect way for all-ages audiences the opportunity to hear and see some of Fort Wayne’s finest musicians perform.
This year’s lineup includes the Junk Yard Band (June 1), Urban Legend (June 8), the Todd Harrold Band (June 15), Hubie Ashcraft (June 22), and Unlikely Alibi (June 29).
The following month check out the Fort Wayne Funk Orchestra (July 6), Brother (July 13), Ty Causey (July 20), and Big Caddy Daddy (July 27).
The schedule wraps up with Jen Fisher & the Foggy Creek Band (August 3), ReGeneration X (August 10), Heady Times (August 17), the New Millennium Jazz Orchestra (August 24), and Good Night Gracie (August 31).
