Three Rivers Music Theatre will present Songs for a New World in collaboration with the Fort Wayne Dance Collective. 

Directed by the Dance Collective’s Mandie Kolkman and the musci theater’s Andy Planck, with music direction by Brandon Porter and choreography by Kolkman and Ashley Beinnghoff, Songs for a New World is the first musical that was wrottem ny Tony Award-winner Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County). 

The show is a moving collection of powerful songs that examines life, love, and the choices we make, intertwining singing, dance, and movement to tell a variety of stories, from a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge 57 stories above Fifth Avenue. 

Songs for a New World runs March 18-April 3 at the Parkview Physicians Group ArtsLab, 300 E. Main St.

Forbidden Broadway at Civic Theatre

Fort Wayne Civic Theatre will present Forbidden Broadway’s Greatest Hits

This musical revenue lovingly satirizes some of Broadway’s greatest stars, including Barbra Streisand, Carol Channing, Liza Minelli, Mandy Patinkin, and Chita Rivera, and sends up some of the most beloved hits, such as Les Miserables, Chicago, Annie, Mamma Mia!, Wicked, Hairspray, and A Chorus Line

Starring Gavin Thomas Drew, Stephanie Longbrake, Jessica Butler Garrison, Darren Harrison, Capri Parrish Williams, and AJ Lorenzini, the show runs March 24-April 3. Tickets are available at artstix.org.

Civic Theatre names new marketing director

Fort Wayne Civic Theatre has hired Capri Parrish Williams as its marketing director. 

Williams is a graduate of Hope College in Holland, Michigan, with a bachelor of arts in dance performance/choreography with minors in health education and theatre. 

For the past four years, she has been the membership and development coordinator for Fort Wayne Museum of Art.

An active volunteer in the arts community, Williams has worked with Fort Wayne Youtheatre, Fort Wayne Dance Collective, the Broadway Street Stroll, and Middle Waves. At the Civic, she has worked professionally as the choreographer for Legally Blonde.

As a volunteer onstage, she has notable performances as Sophie Sheridan in Mamma Mia! and Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and is a member of the upcoming cast of Forbidden Broadway’s Greatest Hits.

In addition to her position as marketing director, Williams will be assistant director and choreographer for this summer’s The SpongeBob Musical and director and choreographer for the spring 2023 production of Into the Woods.

City leaders speak at First Presbyterian

Fort Wayne Presbyterian Theater is continuing its lecture series on “Building Community Through Our Gifts.” 

Upcoming lectures will be held on Wednesdays with Daylana Saunders and Alisha Rauch of Fort Wayne Changemakers on March 23; Cassie Beers, Women’s Fund Director of Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne on March 30; and Iric Headley, director of Fort Wayne United, on April 6. 

The lectures focus on how leaders who are using their individual and unique gifts to build community in Fort Wayne. 

Dinner is served from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and the speaker will present from 6 to 7 p.m. Suggested donation for dinner is $10 per person and an RSVP is required for the meal. To sign up, go to firstpresfortwayne.org and click “Events” for the calendar.

SNL alum at Summit City Comedy Club

Actor/comedian Jay Pharoah, a six-season Saturday Night Live alum known for his impressions of President Barack Obama, Jay Z, Denzel Washington, and Kanye West, will appear at the Summit City Comedy Club on Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19, with two shows each night, 7:30 and 10:30 p.m.

Tickets are $30-40 with a two-item minimum purchase (food, alcohol, or non-alcoholic drink) and attendees must be 18 years or older. 

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the first show and 9:45 p.m. for the second show.
