The City of Fort Wayne’s Public Arts Commission this summer will unveil “Faces of the Fort,” a series of murals featuring hometown heroes. The project focuses on celebrating the culture of Fort Wayne’s diverse population.
Artists used stories submitted by residents about leaders who have contributed to social justice efforts to inspire the creation of the murals.
A committee comprised of members from the Fort Wayne Public Art Commission, local arts organizations and neighborhood groups, the African/African-American Historical Society, the immigrant and refugee community, and the LGBTQIA+ community selected the artists.
This summer’s murals will be unveiled at 4335 S. Anthony Blvd. with artist Kacy Jackson, 1818 Bluffton Road with artist Mitchell Egly, and 1514 St. Joseph Blvd. with artist Benjamin Duke.
PFW Disc Golf Course honored
Purdue University Fort Wayne’s Mastodon Disc Golf Course has been ranked the top free disc golf course in Indiana by UDisc, the official app of the Professional Disc Golf Association. It’s also ranked No. 2 overall.
A growing number of disc golfers use the UDisc app to keep score digitally and have the option to rate the course they are playing at the end of the round.
The 18-hole Purdue Fort Wayne course, designed by alumnus Brian Spaulding, B.S. ’08, and professional disc golfer Brian Miller, highlights the natural beauty of the wooded property and offers options for multiple skill levels. It is open year round, weather permitting.

Terrible Orchestra
The Fort Wayne Terrible Orchestra will have its spring/summer concert on Monday, June 21, at 7 p.m. at First Missionary Church.
The mini “Patriotic Pops” concert will include the music of Schubert, a selection from The Barber of Seville, a medley of hymns from the United States Armed Forces, and a Star Wars medley. Admission is free. Anyone interested in playing with the Terrible Orchestra in the fall should contact the church office at (260) 745-4994.
New fun mural in Andrews
Local artist Bryan “Breadwig” Ballinger has completed a new mural on the side of the Ice Cream Vault at 63 N. Main St. in Andrews. The building itself is painted to resemble a red barn, and the mural features a cartoon animal musical quartet with a banjo-playing pig holding an ice cream cone.
Regional emmys for concert
A locally produced holiday special received three awards at the NATAS Lower Great Lakes Chapter’s 52nd Annual Emmy Awards.
“Virtual Holiday Spectacular,” hosted by Terra Brantley, is a one-hour musical concert produced by Artists Untied in collaboration with the Embassy Theatre. The concert features music by the American Federation Musicians Local 58 and 3, Addison Agen, Ennis L. Brown Jr., Fort Wayne Dance Collective, Indianapolis Ballet, Theoplis Smith III, the Fort Wayne Ballroom Company, Heartland Sings, PFW Choir, Fort Wayne Children’s Choir, and the Fort Wayne Civic Theatre.
The awards were given for musical composition/arrangement to Brennan Johns, audio-live and post-production to Kenji Ulmer and Lukas Untersteiner, and technical achivement to Andrew Lott, Charlotte O’Connor, Emily Grillo, Kenji Ulmer, and Lukas Untersteiner.
