The importance of water is undeniable, but did you consider that we couldn’t have beer without it?

After a well-received partnership with Conjure Coffee earlier this year, City Utilities partners with six area breweries on Friday, Oct. 4, to not only emphasize water’s importance but provide a glimpse at the event’s special venue, the historic Three Rivers Water Filtration Plant at 415 Baltes Ave.

The event is a fundraiser for the St. Joseph River Watershed Initiative.

Showing off their products at Tours on Tap will be Ambrosia Orchard, Chapman’s, GnomeTown, Hop River, Mad Anthony, and Summit City Brewerks.

For a mere $10 ticket, available for purchase at toursontap.eventbrite.com, visitors can enjoy some samples and receive a tour of the 1930s Collegiate Gothic style architecture of the filtration plant that produces our award-winning water.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. and lasts until 8 p.m. and will help raise funds for the all-important SJRWI, a non-profit organization that is working for clean water on the St. Joe River from Michigan to Fort Wayne. Enjoy some local products and help keep our water clean while you’re at it.

It’s almost Corned beef time

Fans of corned beef, be sure to circle Nov. 7 on your calendar.

Better yet, prepare to order ahead because it’s almost time for the 18th annual Corned Beef on Rye – Sure to Satisfy fundraiser at the Temple at 5200 Old Mill Road.

Each sandwich is piled high with corned beef, and a $15 boxed lunch can be ordered ahead (by Oct. 25) and includes the sandwich, pickle, cole slaw, brownie, and a drink. After that date the price goes up to $18 so it’s best to plan ahead. Those who purchase are welcome to sit and eat on site or take it to go.

Have a big office staff who want to partake? Orders of 12 or more incur a $10 delivery fee if you’re all at the same address. Just as one doesn’t have to be Irish to enjoy corned beef in March, the Temple reminds us that we don’t have to be Jewish to enjoy a good corned beef sandwich in November.

Also this year, Hebrew National kosher salamis are available for purchase at only $12 for 12 ounces.

Order forms are available at templecav.org, and phone orders can be placed at (260) 744-4245 (credit card only).

Look for the Portillo’s food truck

And in more foodie news, for those who have been waiting breathlessly (or something close to that) for Portillo’s to open in Fort Wayne, the fateful day is almost here.

In the meantime, and for a limited time only, fans can check out some of Portillo’s most popular offerings — think Italian beef, hot dogs, and cheese fries — on the first ever Portillo’s food truck which hits the streets of Fort Wayne beginning Oct. 7.

If you want to know where to find the truck, follow @beefbusofficial on Twitter and Instagram for locations.
