An important reminder: COVID-19 may have canceled the live and very lively Taste of the Arts this year, but Arts United has been busy the last few weeks capturing band performances and other arts excitement which will be available for celebration on Saturday, Aug. 29. The virtual version of the event — which typically draws thousands to downtown Fort Wayne every last weekend of August — may not have the same vibe or opportunities to try new food and buy some art, but the good people of Arts United have been working long hours to make sure the audience for music and performance gets some satisfaction all the same.As announced by Arts United, the activities to be enjoyed online include three online-streamed “stages” of music, dance, and theatre performances, all accessible from Arts United’s website, Facebook Live, and YouTube Live, with the ability to support participating artists directly. Other offerings will include: The NIPSCO STEAM Park, an online hub to explore local and regional arts and culture organizations and at-home kids’ activities. Artlink’s The Art Market, an online marketplace of handmade goods and art available for purchase by local and regional artists. Restaurant Row, online access to carry out options from restaurants who have participated in Taste of the Arts previously. Don’t despair that things are different this year. Celebrate that there is still so much to enjoy.Drag show benefitAfter a bit of a break, Della Licious’s monthly drag show/brunch to benefit the Positive Resource Connection has resumed, hosted at Welch’s Ale on South Calhoun. For those who have never attended, expect a really good time where good food, a bit of naughty bingo, and some fantabulous drag performers make you forget you now have to distance and wear a mask. Tickets are $36 and include everything except adult beverages which are available for purchase at the bar. The event takes place the first Sunday of every month, so the next one is on Sept. 6. With the holiday the next day, it’s a perfect excuse to cut loose a little for a very good cause.
