Although events continue to be vulnerable to the fickle finger of Covid, Fort Wayne Ballet is looking ahead to its 64th season with a Cocktail Kickoff in keeping with its classy and enjoyable gatherings.

With a mind toward all of the social distancing and other requirements of the day, Fort Wayne Ballet will celebrate its upcoming season with a fundraiser at Sycamore Hills Golf Club at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27.

Guests will enjoy a signature cocktail, gourmet appetizers, a cash bar, and the chance to meet and mingle with this season’s professional dancers.

Artistic Director Karen Gibbons-Brown will host the event and share the plans for an intimate and special season of new works from the growing company, including a newly choreographed staging of Dracula from Ballet Mistress and Director of Outreach Tracy Tritz.

Tickets are $75 per person with very limited availability due to space restrictions.

To purchase, visit artstix.org or fortwayneballet.org/fundraising-events.

Design a mask with WBOI

Although wearing a mask has become somewhat controversial, the simple fact is that it is often required. Thus, it provides a means of making an artistic statement. To that end, WBOI is hosting a Make Me a Mask campaign which runs through Sept. 7.

The plan for the virtual event is to encourage people to design a mask which helps contain the spread of Covid-19.

Make a mask that covers your nose and mouth. Get a picture of you wearing it. Send the picture along with your name, age, and contact info to news@nipr.fm. Any materials may be used, including but not limited to recyclables, found objects, clothes, toys, hats, all kinds of foods (as well as their containers). No photoshopping.

Creativity and unusual designs are not only accepted but encouraged. Each week, prizes will be awarded to the most creative masks in adult and youth (16 and younger) categories.

With August and September still ahead, make the most of this artistic opportunity.
