Out and About

August 18, 2021
The Japanese-American ukulele virtuoso and composer Jake Shimabukuro will take to The Clyde Theatre stage on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.
Known for his fast and complex finger work, Shimabukuro mixes influences from jazz, flamenco, Hawaiian culture, and more. His breakout success came in 2006 when, unbeknownst to him, someone posted a video of him playing The Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” on YouTube. It quickly went viral, receiving over 15 million views, which resulted in an increase in concert engagements and collaboration requests from the likes of Jimmy Buffett, Béla Fleck, Ziggy Marley, amd Cyndi Lauper.
There is no doubt that Shimabukuro has redefined how people think about the ukulele. Tickets are available now at clydetheatre.com, the Clyde box office, all Wooden Nickel locations, Neat Neat Neat Records, the Sweetwater concierge desk, or by phone (800) 514-3849.
Rap meets Rock in Angola
On Friday, Oct. 1, The Eclectic Room in Angola is set to welcome hip-hop, country, and rock band Rehab. Hailing from Warner Robins, Ga., Rehab began in the late ’90s as part of the booming rap/rock culture. They have released seven studio albums, toured nationally, and survived a five-year hiatus.
The band are mainly known for their 2008 hit, “Bartender Song (Sittin’ at a Bar),” and are currently on the road in support of their latest EP Danny Boone 3. General admission and VIP tickets are available now through TicketWeb.com.
Celebrate the Seasons
The days may be getting shorter, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to end quite yet.
Ambrosia Orchard, Cidery, and Meadery in Hoagland will host The End of Summer Bash on Saturday, Aug. 28, from 5-9 p.m. Not only will it be a closing of an awesome summer but a celebration of good things to come this fall.
The bash will feature some mighty fine entertainment from the Midwest, including cellist Jordan Hamilton from Kalamazoo, Mich., who blends hip-hop and jazzy beats together in an amazing soundscape you don’t want to miss. Joining Hamilton will be South Bend musician/composer Eli Kahn who just released his debut solo album, How Are You? No, Really…How Are You?
In addition, Pyroscope Entertainment will be onsite for an LED and fire show to dazzle your eyes while soaking in the good music.
This is a free event, so round up the troops and head down. You might want to pack a blanket or chairs and come hungry as Mercadito Taqueria will be there serving up the goods.
