The School of Rock is kicking off the new year with a show that will satisfy all the tasteful music lovers out there. On Saturday, Jan. 12, an all-day showcase at C2G Music Hall will display students’ hard work.
The SOR performance groups will cover hits by various groups. One covers The Rolling Stones, while another covers the mighty Van Halen. In addition, the adult students will perform songs from guitar legends like Chuck Berry and Zakk Wylde. You’re going to get your rock fix, that’s for sure.
But this is not just a full-blown rock show. One of the groups will be performing the music of Motown. Basically, you’re getting four shows in one. As an added bonus, the Rock 101 students will perform in between sets.
The show will kick-off at 1 p.m. with the last band slated for 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 day of the show. They can be picked up at School of Rock or from any of the students.
Classic rock with classic musicians
The Hubbub is a new classic rock cover act that will soon be shaking things up on the local scene. The band is comprised of JJ Fabini (vocals/guitar), Chilly Addams (guitar), Chris Carmichael (bass), and Daniel Hogan (drums). With veterans like that, you can guarantee you’ll get your money’s worth. Together, The Hubbub perform everything from The Band, Led Zeppelin, Tom Petty, The Smithereens, Traffic, and a whole bunch of other toe tappers.
If you would like to check them out, they have a show on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Beamer’s Sports Grill. Keep an eye out for The Hubbub in 2019.
My Soul’s Revolution’s album release party
Local alternative trio My Soul’s Revolution are hosting a CD release party on Friday, Jan. 11, at O’Sullivans. At Witt’s End is the name of this 11-track gem recorded at Kerosec Productions. Tracks like “Time Travel,” “Summer Tea,” and “Madelynn” highlight their unique sound and have me even more stoked for the release.
Currently, you can find At Witt’s End on a number of streaming sites, but you’ll be able to get your hands on a physical copy at O’Sullivans. That evening, My Soul’s Revolution will be joined by Kerosec, Hazensol, and Element: Indigo. With pizza, drinks, live music, and no cover, it should be a blast.
Helping ty brinneman
Four elite acts will perform at Welch’s Ale House on Saturday, Jan. 19, to help raise money for Ty Brinneman and his family as he pursues treatment for a recent cancer diagnosis. Set to perform at 8 p.m. are Metavari, Heaven’s Gateway Drugs, The Legendary Trainhoppers, and Best Sleep.
There will be a $12 cover with 100 percent of the door being donated. If you can’t make it out that evening, there will be a silent auction and art for sale earlier at Welch’s from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. It’s open to the public.
