The Sweetwater Performance Pavilion has added another show to the summer concert calendar: Kool & The Gang.
The funk hit makers will stroll through town on Saturday, May 16, and will bring with them all the fan favorites from the ’70s and ’80s, plus some of the band’s most recent jams.
Fifty one years old and still going strong, the band has become true recording industry legends with iconic songs like “Celebration,” “Cherish,” “Jungle Boogie,” and “Summer Madness.” Just imagine the sheer party atmosphere that you and your crew will experience that evening.
Tickets for Kool & The Gang go on sale Friday, Jan. 31, at 10 a.m. at the Sweetwater campus and online via Sweetwaterpavilion.com.
Win a free two-song recording session
Part of the journey of bands trying to take their music to the next level is the process of recording their would-be hits.
The fine folks at Sweetwater are running a contest to make that next step happen for you for free.
If you have two songs you’re ready to record, they are ready to hear them. One lucky band or artist will win professional recording, mixing, and mastering of two original tracks and 100 CDs, all at no charge.
Now, that is a huge value to any aspiring band or artist. You’ll record in a world-class studio to boot.
If you or your band would like a chance at this offer, you can sign up to win at Sweetwaterstudios.com. The deadline is March 31.
Opening a jar of green jelly
A trio of local acts have an adventurous show coming up on the evening of Friday, Feb. 28, at The Ruin.
The B Movie Monsters, Black Crown Serpent, and Creep are due to share the stage with the one and only Green Jelly.
Yeah, that Green Jelly, once known as Green Jello, the architects for the hit single “Three Little Pigs,” adapted from the nursery rhyme. Recognized for their sophomoric humor, theatrical performances, and intentionally crude musicianship, Green Jelly has had hundreds of members during the band’s existence, with vocalist Bill Manspeaker the only consistent member throughout.
When asked about the opportunity to open for Green Jelly, B Movie Monsters frontman Van Heller excitedly responded, “We love playing with Green Jelly, it’s always a good time. It’s cartoonish shock-rock at its finest!”
In any event, you’re not going to go wrong with these four solid acts up close and personal. Tickets are available through Ticketstripe.com.
Birthday Bash at Hop River
Hop River Brewing will be blowing out candles for their second birthday on Saturday, Feb. 8. Beginning at noon, folks can take part in the celebration with brews, trivia, live music, special food options, and cake.
The event will also include the release of their 6th canned beer, Sleepy Head (IPA). The music will begin at 3 p.m. with Chicago native Jack Byron, Sean Ryan, and the five-piece rock and Celtic folk act from Goshen, Ind., McLane & Company.
Happy birthday, and here’s to many more!
