On Saturday, Aug. 31, Mike Neglia & The Nobles will make their debut at The Brass Rail.
Neglia, who was born in New Jersey but raised in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, moved to Fort Wayne in 2020 and has been very active in the music scene.
You may have seen Neglia playing guitar with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and Three Rivers Big Band, or teaching guitar and popular music at Purdue University Fort Wayne.
With his latest endeavor, he has assembled a group of top-notch musicians that includes Jack Wellington on bass, Alex Gleason on drums, Kyle Osborn on keys, and Neglia on guitar and vocals.
Wellington you know from the husband-and-wife duo Alfie Jean & Fella Jack, while Osborn can be found in Piques among others.
Together, they bring a real rock n’ roll sound.
“With the Nobles, my diverse and fertile mind is set loose to compose whatever I want in any style,” Neglia said. “We’ve got straight Stones and Petty kind of bangers, and then Latin rhythm, old-time signature jazz pieces.
“All of the songs are about emotional space, consciousness.”
The band are adding finishing touches to an album they say will have a little something for everyone.
They hope to share a couple singles before the debut show at The Rail with Sun.Dyle and Augmentasia.
Their following scheduled performance will be at the free West Central ArtsFest at the corner of Union and West Wayne streets on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 4 p.m.
Holy Nothing pay tribute to Placebo
The Holy Nothing have released a cover of Placebo’s “Special Needs” off the British alternative rock band’s 2003 studio album, Sleeping with Ghosts.
“We are all big Placebo fans, especially the album Sleeping with Ghosts,” bassist Dan Kinnaley said. “It was a fun challenge to try and recreate the lush vibe of the original with fuzz pedals instead of buzzing synths. Our friend Hallie Nowak wrote and performed the theremin solo near the end that in my opinion makes the whole song, giving it a haunted but soaring tone.”
The Holy Nothing version can be found on your favorite streaming site.
In addition, the trio have been busy working on an EP, so get ready to feast your ears on even more new music from these rockers.
As for live shows, The Holy Nothing will be at The Brass Rail on Thursday, Aug. 22, with Chicago’s Lollygagger.
Salem’s Childe releasing album
The Fort Wayne/Kokomo metal band Salem’s Childe will release Unbound on Aug. 16 on Pavement Records.
This bad boy features nine tracks, including “The Reaping,” a song featuring guest vocals by Joe Rodriguezof the groove metal band Pissing Razors.
They recently shared teasers of a couple tracks on their Facebook page where you can also pre-order the album.
To top things off, they will be hitting the road with Pissing Razors. Drummer Scott Early shared that they are finalizing a few of the dates and will be announcing the tour soon.
“I am pumped!” he said. “Things are about to get very busy and we’re all looking forward to it. See you on the road!”
Debutants printing more vinyl
Debutants are thrilled to announce that River on the Moon is now available on vinyl.
The limited-edition run of 100 records is pressed on 180-gram transparent orange vinyl with cobalt blue splatter.
Hopefully, you ordered yourself a copy or snagged one at their recent Junk Ditch gig since I’m being told they sold out fairly quick.
However, Lynn Nicholson tells me they will be ordering more, so be on the lookout and don’t get caught sleeping this time around.
As for shows, they will be performing the Concert on the Farm event at Salomon Farm Park on Aug. 25 and at The Back Room in Michigan City on Sept. 26 with newgrass mates Arkansauce.
Eric Biesiada benefit set for Aug. 10
It’s almost been five years since Shroud drummer Eric Biesiada left us, but thanks to family and friends, his memory lives on with the annual Blast Beats Biesiada Bash.
On Saturday, Aug. 10, at 8 p.m., Blast Beats Biesiada Bash No. 7 will take place in Club Escape at Piere’s.
Set to perform are Pigweed, Crystal “C-Note” Clouse, Voice of Sylas, Icona Vera, and Forgotten Ashes.
The event will raise money for Hope Rescue Ranch, a small rescue that takes on some of the most extreme dog medical cases in Houston.
Sure, it might not be helping local dogs, but because the animal abuse and dumping in Texas is horrendous, organizers of the event would like to help.
In any event, come out and get your face melted.
This is an all-ages show with tickets going for $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
